Characteristics That a Pilot must Posses

There are many young Filipinos who are aspiring to be an air plane pilot someday.  If you are planning to enroll in an aviation school and wants to be a pilot, then consider this checklist from orientfreight.com, an air freight company in the Philippines. You must have the following characteristics:

Must not be afraid of heights–This may be one of the most important characteristics that a pilot must have. You will be working in the air thus you should not be afraid of heights.

Does not have any serious medical condition –A pilot must be physically fit for this job. Remember, the life of your passengers is in your hands so if you have heart problem or if you are diabetic then you might want to reconsider your choice of profession.

Must be able to quickly decide in case of emergency – Pilots will sometimes encounter an emergency situation like emergency landings. They must maneuver to prevent planes from crashing. You should have the ability to think quickly on where you will land your plane. We are not threatening you. Actually, according to statistics, there are more accidents in land than air. The fact is, there is only a small probability that an airplane will crash.

Can endure long hours of travel – Pilots that are employed in an international company usually have long hours of travel. If your body is prepared from this long travel then you can enroll in an aviation school and pursue your dream to be a pilot someday.

Can endure long hours away from family – Pilots usually have long hours of travel. Because of this most, pilots are not with their families even on the special events or holidays. You should prepare yourself for this situation. You might be away from your family in a span that ranges from one month to some ten months.

Height is a must – This is not to discourage people who were not gifted with height but height is necessary for a pilot to reach the buttons and pedals with ease.

Shocking news - TSA now allows pocket knife and some sports sticks

Do you Know What Items are Prohibited on Planes?

Currently, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) forbids the following items in carry-on luggage: Knives or sharp objects, most sporting goods, firearms, tools larger than 7 inches, explosive materials, self defense items, flammable items, and most liquids of more than 100 ml.

The most recent news that shocked me was that TSA now allows knives and sports sticks such as ski poles, hockey sticks, and lacrosse sticks on planes beginning April 25, 2013. Under the new rules, TSA will now allow knives with blades that are 2.36 inches (6 centimeters) or shorter and less than half an inch. It will be allowed in cabins as long as the blade is not fixed or does not lock into place.

We, from OrientFreight.com, a company for air freight in Philippines, disagree with the decision of TSA. For us they should continue to impose the ban of sports sticks and knives on the plane. It can be used by people who have bad intentions as well as even terrorists. We don’t see why a person would need a knife while on board on plane. It will just increase the threat of terrorism and the life of other passengers will be in danger.

Let’s remember what had happened 12 years ago on the most destructive attack done to the United States. It was widely reported that the 9/11 terrorists used “box cutter” in their attack. The weapons were not recovered and most of the investigators believed that there are also different types of knife used in the attack. Many had died. A lot of people lost friends and families.

A union of 90,000 flight attendants also condemned this action by TSA. They believe that this is one opportunity that the terrorists can also use and abuse to launch an new attacks. According to them, the continued prohibitions of these items are very important to ensure the safety of passengers.
